What is Rent a Specialist? It’s our newest concept to allow you, the rider, to be more self-sufficient on your bicycle. Learn from the Best so your bike can run the Best!
How does it work? SIMPLE!
  • Come on by the shop, Bonzai Cycle Werx, call us up or send us a message in the field to the right and set an appointment for our working hours – After hours available at a higher rate.
  • Pre Pay for the first hour when you setup the appointment – Also Available as a gift!
  • If you need parts for your appointment, purchase/order them from Bonzai at the same time you schedule the appointment for 10% off retail! Or bring your own parts!
  • Bring your own bike – You will get a full work station equipped with ALL the tools and work stand needed to do the repair of your choice with a UBI Certified Specialist showing you how to do it every step of the way.
  • Your first hour is pre-paid, past that, you will be charged for every half hour when the repair is finished.
  • When you are done with the repair – any tool purchase you need is 10% off from Bonzai Cycle Werx!


  • Why rent a specialist? Simple, We are offering Rent a Specialist to allow you to better understand your bicycle and have experience invested in it's operation.
  • What does Rent a Specialist cover? EVERYTHING!
    Derailleurs, Brakes, Adjustments, installs, Assembly, Wheel Truing, Wheel building, Tubeless setups, Cranksets, hubs, Overhauls, Tune-Ups, Cassettes, Groupos, Bottom Brackets, Bearings, Headsets, Forks, Suspension, Pivots, frame Swaps and MUCH MORE!
  • Won't my learning everything mean I don't need this service anymore? Not necessarily. If you only use this service once, let's say for 2 hours. You still only have 2 hours on the instructor's 37,440 hours and counting of hands on experience (18 years, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day). We expect you to enjoy this service so much you will keep coming back to learn more and more as your mechanical skills and knowledge advance.
  • What happens if I don’t use the full hour? Whether you only use 20 minutes or 59 minutes, you will be charged for the full hour – which you already pre-paid for.
  • What happens if I go over by 5 minutes? Whether it be 5 minutes or 29 minutes, you will be charged for the full half hour.
  • What if I did all my work at home after utilizing this service but only want you to check over my work? If you have already paid for and used this service, we will charge you a flat half hour rate to check over your work. If we find an issue and you want help fixing it, we will charge you the full hourly flat rate instead of the half hour.
  • Do I need to wear certain clothes? Yes. An apron will be available if you wish to use it. However wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. As well as no open toe shoes. No sandals, flip flops, etc.
  • Can I do this by just walking in? No, the service is by Appointment only. However, you can setup an appointment at any time – pre pay the first hour.
  • Can I buy Parts from Bonzai for this service? Of course you can! When you purchase/order parts at the time you setup your appointment, you will receive 10% off all parts.
  • Can I bring my own parts? You sure can! Just let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly with torque specs, etc, so we can use your appointment time as efficiently as possible.
  • What if I only need to simply learn to install a tube or tire? That service is FREE! Let us know and we can schedule that free service accordingly. Free service does not include parts or install of TUBELESS systems.
  • What makes this different than a class? Traditionally a class uses a bicycle that is ALREADY in working condition and has multiple students. You are shown how your bicycle works and how to adjust things as they go wrong. The Rent A Specialist service starts with your out of adjustment bicycle, New box of parts or just general knowledge of an issue you have been dealing with and helps you fix the problem or assemble your bicycle.
  • Is the Rent A Specialist service more expensive than if Bonzai Cycle Werx just did my repair? Yes, with this service we introduce and teach you how to navigate the world of bicycle maintenance VooDoo. Instead of just working our Magic.
  • What do I need to bring? You, your bike - preferably clean - no mud. and a willingness to learn how to do your own repair.
  • What if I have to reschedule? A 48hr notice required for cancellation, reschedule, otherwise you lose deposit.
  • Do I need to sign anything? Yes, you will need to sign a waiver before the appointment begins.
  • Who can do this? ANYONE! People under 18 need to have the waiver signed by Parent
  • Who is the instructor? Brian Buell - Owner of Bonzai Cycle Werx. He had been a Service Technician in the bicycle industry since 1998. He was certifed by UBI in Feb of 2008 before opening Bonzai Cycle Werx Sept of 2008.
  • What is UBI certified? UBI stands for United Bicycle Institute. Brian Buell has been Certified by UBI.
  • Why not just pay you to do the work? You can! This new service allows you to be more self sufficient at maintaining your own bicycle, instead of us doing it for you.
  • Can I do all my repairs this way? OF COURSE! - Just need to set an appointment. No appointment, no service.
  • Is this One on One? YES, It's the only way to do it right. We may expand later to small groups up to 3-4 people at once.
  • Can this appointment be done at my house? Currently no, this service is only done at Bonzai Cycle Werx. However, a mobile education vehicle later on is not out of the question.
  • Can I make an appointment as a gift for someone? Definitely! You can pre pay for their appointment and when they receive their gift they can call and setup the appointment.
